LET'S PLAY TAG!

I've just hosted a tag swap and the brief I gave was to make 2 tags with a vintage and/or distressed theme. These are my two that are now winging their way (well, in the back of a post office van) to 2 other places in the country.

Each tag is 6" tall. They were covered with some paper from a huge K & Co pad I've got. Everything was inked with distress ink pads Walnut Stain and Brushed Corduroy. I stamped the honeycomb grid and the birds using another of my new Kaisercraft Stamps (sheesh! I love Kaisercraft). Hope and Dream are Tim Holtz tickets and the boy is a Tim Holtz Ideaology 'Lost and Found' sticker. Dream and the chipboard key (inked with walnut stain) were crackle glazed. The text strips I did myself on my pooter and the other bits were from my stash.

A RIGHT ROYAL.....

I'm really into masking at the moment. I mask all sorts of images so the other night I thought I'd get out my T.H. Distress ink pads, some stamps, (Tattered Angels Screen Prints) wipe the dust off my glimmer mists and have a go. I also used a Tim Holtz mask of a crown, but I was disappointed. I couldn't get on with it at all and I've never done well with the glimmer mists. They promptly went back on the shelf to gather dust for another year. The crown looked appalling and just didn't blend well enough with the owl so I tossed it. Tonight I got it out again and tried to figure out how to salvage it, so I ended up using the mask as a template, drawing round it and cutting it out. It's still not good. Anyhow, this is what it ended up like...one of my less than perfect pieces, the crown is too dark now.

I thought I'd have another go and do a better one. The tags are lovely thick chipboard tags and the distress inks work well on them. This time, I stamped a crown, masked the owl and crown and stamped the text. His eyes are watch parts covered with diamond glaze. This isn't what I wanted when I started out, but it's where my stamps took me, lol. A Right Royal Hoot was born. :o)

DISTRESSED

I've been playing at being Tim Holtz and distressing some tags. I really like my distress ink pads and the more I use them, the more I like them.

I used my silicone mat this time and started with some ink tapped onto it and then spritzed with water for the background on the large coloured tag. I blended more ink in from outside to get the soft edges, then just stamped some images on. The image on the right hand side of the centre tag was stamped with Fired Brick which was gently spritzed to 'blur' the image and then overstamped with Black Soot to get the double image. The stamps are by Rubadubadoo (watches) and Prima Marketing. The luggage tags are from the newsagents as they're much cheaper than buying them from a craft shop. :o) When I'd finished stamping, I blended a bit of Black Soot ink around the edges.

I've added a couple more slideshows to my blog today too, so take a look if you want to see some of my parchment work and jewelry.
